Just when you think everything works fine, a company launches a new service that convinces you that everything wasn't. Who thought we needed a new search company. Yahoo and Excite were just fine. Google didn't think so. Sharethis.com is doing the same thing to the idea of sharing. I share pictures, videos, links with friends on email, facebook and myspace with ease, right? Try Sharethis and you'll be convinced you are wrong.
Google thinks this as well, as they have recently launched their own sharing service. The
most interesting thing is that they have nabbed the sharethis icon owned by sharethis.com. Now Google never does anything that isn't well thought through. Also, they are very true to their branding and the Sharethis icon clearly steps out of Google's branding guidelines. What are they thinking? As a Sharethis advocate, I see it as good news. They are in a sense promoting the Sharethis brand and promoting the idea that sharing is the next way to discover new content beyond search. On the other hand, it is curious that the would take another companies logo (www.sharethis.com) knowing that they can't (easily) own it.
